Bear hugs...
Our theme last night for Apples of Gold was Valentine's Day (our teaching was on hospitality). I found this cute craft in a magazine called Family Fun. I added a heart shaped cookie cutter since they were going to go to adults instead of children. I placed one at each lady's plate.

Fun with play dough...

Valentine's Day is this week so I thought it would be fun to do something with hearts each day this week. Today I made play dough and Colette made a heart ... along with other shapes. I think she really had the most fun making birthday cakes for her doll. I have included our recipe for play dough.
Play Dough
1 Cup flour
1/2 Cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 Cup water
1 Tablespoon cooking oil
food coloring
Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar in a pan. Slowly add the water, cooking oil and food coloring (or wait and add food coloring when you knead it). Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until dough forms a ball. Turn out onto wax paper, let cool for a few minutes, and knead until smooth. Divide into 2 balls. Store in plastic air tight container.

Honey Bun Cake...
The first time I had this cake my sweet friend Marjo made it. I thought it was delicious. Thanks Marjo!! I like it for breakfast or dessert. Either way, you will find it easy and will get compliments from others.
2/3 cup chopped pecans (I omitted these but it was good with them)
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
Serves: 15

Love this cake...
Warm Winter Lemon Cake
Prep: 15 min. Total time: 1 hour 15 min.
Add 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of lemon zest to the pudding mixture for some extra lemon flavor. You can substitute a chocolate cake mix and chocolate pudding.
1 pkg. yellow cake mix
2 cups cold milk
1-1/4 cups water
2 pkg. (4-serving size each) JELL-O Lemon Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 Tbsp. powdered sugar
*Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare cake batter as directed on package. Pour into greased 13x9-inch baking dish; set aside.
*Pour milk and water into large bowl. Add dry pudding mixes and granulated sugar. Beat with wire whisk 2 min. or until well blended. Pour over batter. Place baking dish on baking sheet to catch any sauce that might bubble over sides of dish as dessert bakes.
*Bake 55 min. to 1 hour or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Check for doneness at 45 minutes. Cool 20 min. (Sauce will thicken slightly as it cools.) Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Spoon into serving dishes to serve warm. Store leftovers in refrigerator.

Parties, Food, Fun...
We have enjoyed having my sister, Stephanie, here from Honduras. She goes back this Saturday and we will miss her. We had a party for her this past Saturday and she was so blessed by her friends!
On Sunday she fixed us some Honduran food. We all liked it...even Ashlynn! Thanks Stephanie for bringing this from Honduras! We all had fun tasting the different things.

Apples of Gold...
Last week was our first week of Apples of Gold. This is the second group we have had go through this mentoring program. It is a 7 week course where women are mentored in different areas.
They learn some cooking skills from two wonderful mentors. I was especially excited to have my sister help in the kitchen this week.
